Class Assembly

Don’t forget that it is the Year 5 class assembly on Friday 23rd June at 10.15am.  Everyone is welcome and a crèche will be provided for pre-school children and babies.  We look forward to seeing you then.

Ancient Egypt

This half term, we have begun to learn about Ancient Egypt.  We carried out a drama about Howard Carter finding the tomb of Tutankhamun in 1922.  We learnt that it was actually a waterboy who found the steps to the tomb as he was walking across the sand, although Howard Carter was given the credit for the find.  We are now writing diary entries about the find form the point of view of either Howard Carter or the waterboy.

Our Toyota Visit

Last week, we had our second class trip of the year when we visited Toyota at Burnaston.  We all had a fantastic time and enjoyed learning about what happened in the factory and how the cars were made.  We also learnt about time management and how this could help us with our homework.

We began by making our own cars out of Lego.  All of them were made from the same pieces but were all different designs:

We then had our own production line where we had to make lots of the same model car:

This was an example of our times when we worked together as a team to create a model car.  We all had difficult targets to meet, which we all achieved:

Many thanks to everyone at Toyota for organising and leading such a fantastic trip.  One of the best class trips ever!

Making Mountains

In our topic work, we have been learning about mountains.  We learnt about the different parts of a mountain and have made our own mountain landscapes out of modroc.  We had a fantastic time making these.  We hope that you like them!

Epic Citadel

Over the past few weeks, we have been using an app called Epic Citadel within Literacy.  We explored the city on ipads and tablets and then created word clouds with the descriptive words based on our views of the city.

We wrote our own stories about the city and then produced and directed our own videos about the reason why there were no people in the city.  These will be uploaded over the next few days.

We hope that you like the stories and videos.

Olympic Juice Drink

Ready for the Olympic games, Lord Alan Sugar set us a challenge to create a popular juice drink to make some quid cash. We did market research and all tasted a range of juices. Then, we collated the results to see which were the most and least popular.

In teams, we then designed logos and slogans for our drinks and we all tasted each other’s creations!

The results will be in tomorrow to see who has won: Best colour, best taste, best smell, best logo and the overall winner! The tension is unbearable…

MP letter response!

We received something very exciting through the post today! After writing letters to our local MP, Heather Wheeler, about the growing number of cars in our village, she sent every one of us, including Mr C, an individual letters. She also said that she will make a case for the issue we have raised!

Our letters highlighted that there is no way to cross Twyford Road to get to school or the park and some of us are feeling very worried about crossing. In our Willington Waterways topic, we sent out a questionnaire to family and friends in the village who also raised this concern. We suggested a zebra crossing or speed bumps to try and improve the problem.

Thank you so much to Heather Wheeler for finding the time to reply to all of us!
